The Bad Lands
This trip to South Dakota would have been incomplete without a visit to Badlands National Park. The drought of the land and the contrasting emptiness of the Badlands create a spectacle unique where the human has nothing to do than to admire the work that the wind, the water and the erosion have inflicted on natural environment over the years of its existence. Here is some taste of all that it gives.
Just before the entrance to the Badlands Park, is Wall, South Dakota |
With the world famous Wall Drug Store complex. You gota stop here if you are in the desert area of South Dakota! |
They even have a small chapel for travelers. |
They started serving Free Ice Cold Water in 1936 to try and bring in business. They now have over 76,000 square feet of 'store'. History here. |
Just a few miles south of Wall, SD is the entrance to the Badlands National Park. |
One of the most desolate areas in the US. |
|
The strata of colors range from pinks to whites, amazing. |
|
Can you imagine anything living here? |
It's me with the Badlands in the background. |
Just seems to go on for ever! |
I said not much could live here, but look, here is a goat with her kid! |
|
|
Here' Bob. |
Our mode of transportation on this trip was Bob's little Suzuki X-90 with bicycles! |
Too hot for the bikes in this area, for sure! |
Even though it's July and well into the summer, |
the area was especially green from out of the ordinary rains. |
|
|
These pictures do not do justice to desolation and |
amazing expanse of the Badland! |
