Devil's Tower

When someone travels in Europe and visits the ancient cities from the Middle Ages, one of the striking things is the existence of the remnants of the medieval towers that have contributed to the glory of this period of time. It is so striking to realize that Devils Tower reminds of some of these vestiges of the past. What is particular about Devils Tower Monument in Wyoming is that it is not an architectural work done by human hands, but a work that nature has developed over the years. It is so great to enjoy the beauty of Devils Tower in the whispering silence of nature and the melody of songs of birds. For more information go here.

There it is!
Devil's Tower
Miles Away!

And it can be seen for miles away. It's 867 feet high from it's base to the top.

President Theodore Roosevelt established Devils Tower National Monument on September 24, 1906. Our country's first National Monument!

We still haven't entered the park yet!

We're getting closer.

Wow - look at that rock!

We finally arrive at the park entrance

And start our walk around the rock a 1.3 mile walk on the trail.

Bob, you said there was a climber, I can't see him.

Don't you see him on the left side just above the taller trees?

Here, I'll show you a close-up!

I see him now, I don't think I'll join him on his journey, thanks anyway.

Indians call this a sacred mountain

and they leave prayer offerings and cloths

to this day at the monument.

June is especially reserved for sacred Indian times. We often say many of these offerings and were asked to leave them be with signs along the way.

How do you like my hat!

Do you see the remnants of a wooden ladder used by climbers in the 1920's?

OK, I'll show you this one too. See the wood in the cracks in the center?

To many Indians, it is known as Bear's Lodge, and is certainly a very special place!
